With my mouth open, I could not stop the gaze; the scene was breathtaking! From the helicopter, I could see the peak of the Mountain. Rivers of ice gave the mountain a sparkling look.
The golden rays of the morning sun were shining down on the glacier, making it even more irresistible, the sky was blue and the freshness of the cold air was undeniable. As a rule, the glacier is the largest reservoir of freshwater on earth, supporting one-third of the world’s population. Unfortunately, one of the worst effects of climate change is the disappearance and glacier retreat, causing a sea level rise.
Nevertheless, the future of our climate lies in our hand. Climate change; you and I can stop it, stay with me.
Causes and effects of climate change
Climate change is a lasting change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns over the periods ranging from decades to millions of years! Some of the causes of climate change are the natural world which we have no control and the human-specific impacts, which we can prevent.
According to The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the effects of climate change are extreme weathers such as increased drought, and increased incidence of extreme high sea level. Earthquakes due to seismicity increase ocean acidification hence killing the aquarium, droughts, and deaths of our wildlife, forest fires and so on are also some of the predominant effects of climate change.
The unlimited burning of fossil fuels, coal, oil and natural gase are the predominant cause if climate change since they release CO2 into the atmosphere at an increasing rate. However, this is something that can be prevented or reduced. Carbon dioxide makes the greenhouse gas thicker, and in turn makes the earth warmer, causing the greenhouse effects.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) also describes coal as the predominant cause of climate change. It is the richest in carbon, hence burning coal generates 70% of carbon dioxide than natural gas. However, the widest available fossil fuel is coal. Almost 2 billion people have no access to domestic electricity. As such, coal is considered to be the cheapest fossil fuel across the globe. Nevertheless, the real cost of coal is never found on any balance sheet bit in the lives and health of the people and ecosystem in the world!
You and I can stop it!
The global power sector should be made responsible for the true costs of pollution. Besides, governments should subside the production of coal production. Again, the governments should make the availability of much cleaner and renewable energies easily available to the people.
Nevertheless, we cannot only rely on the government for our future; you and I have a role to play. To begin with, forests play the role of absorbing CO2 in the environment and emitting oxygen. As such, do not cut trees, instead, plan to plant more trees.
Subsequently, there will be less global warming, forest fires that cause death of wildlife and trees, a glacier will not retreat, and earthquakes will be less, meaningless lives will be lost to earthquakes.
The future of our climate partially lies in our hands, and we can make it better; by planting more trees, and implementing cleaner energies! Climate change; you and I can stop it!
